Thai and Love and You
Thai Wanna Dance with Somebody
Hannah's Song (Oh, Thai Thai Thai)
Every Thai-le A Memory
ThaiMCA
Since Leah was about ready to punch me after I suggested ThaiMCA, we actually still haven't come up with a name for the blog. I'm writing this right now with a placeholder title. I'll be fascinated to see what title we agree on by the time this post gets to you. (Hopefully we do actually agree on a title at some point. If we can't, I'm not optimistic about our cooperative capacity over the next 30 days.)
And yep, that's about all I've done on the "preparing to leave" front so far. Well, that's not strictly true. I had been planning on entering a 4th of July bake-off at a community center near where Leah horseback rides at Stanford, but another commitment came up and I wasn't able to make it. So this evening I held a private bake-off against myself at home. I totally won.
Another masterpiece.
Moral: If you Give A Hannah A Packing List, it might be kind of like Giving A Mouse A Cookie. Or she might just Bake Herself A Pie.
Footnotes
* I find it fascinating that the meaning of the phrase "last and first" is so different from the meaning of the phrase "first and last." Seems like it violates some sort of lexical symmetric property.
** You may also remember that the independent genius of "If You Give A Mouse A Cookie" was somewhat undermined by the sequels "If You Give A Moose A Muffin" and "If You Give A Pig A Pancake," which were in turn further undermined by "...Cat A Cupcake," "...Pig A Party," "...Mouse To School," and "Mouse To The Movies." I must report that, as of Fall 2011, we can also Give A Dog A Donut.

Probably not a masterpiece. |
*** Meaning titles that involve enough of a pun to make me happy, but are at least relevant enough to our trip that Leah doesn't reject them outright.
GREAT POST! Very clever and funny.
ReplyDeleteI send you my best wishes for a wonderful journey.
I'm confident you'll have a better experience than my last few days, which featured my being connected to two national news stories.
On July 4th, I was at the Simi fireworks tragedy, 'nuf said.
On Saturday, I was getting ready to fly up to SFO to spend a few days with these two talented bloggers and their family.
For lack of better way to describe the events, I'll copy/paste my initial communication to United the following day:
Greetings,
As of very late in the afternoon yesterday, both your website and your 800 # had my flight as being on time with no delay. It was not until I got to the airport, a very long drive from my house, that I was informed of the PLANE CRASH in SFO and that SFO had been and would be closed for HOURS. How your website and the 800 # could've showed my flight as being on time with no delay HOURS after this plane crash and airport closure is UNACCEPTABLE. United then sent me an email notifying me of the delay at 3:28. Of course I was already at LAX at this time, for a 4:23 ON TIME departure as I had been fully made aware of by United up until that point.
My phone conversation with Aira, employee #4165, after my discovery of the plane crash and airport closure, was initially the same as the website and the 800 #- she immediately informed me that the flight was indeed still on time, no delays. Upon MY informing HER of SFO's closure, she put me on hold and then returned to tell me that indeed the flight was canceled. We then spent a few moments with her trying to find out it there were any seats on any other flights to the other airports in the area- OAK and SJO- within a reasonable time frame, Aria informed me that all available seats on all airlines to both of those airports were fully booked through the next evening (clearly by other passengers who were notified earlier SFO was closed). She said that I would be issued a full credit for the flight and would be sent an email notifying me of such. As of now, I see no such credit/notification.
I hope I am not coming across as being uncaring; of course my prayers are with the victims of this tragedy. However, United's incompetence in this matter is unacceptable.
I'm now in the process of negotiating with United as per final compensation.
What's really funny is that I just received another email from United encouraging me to check in for my return flight, which was to be this evening.
So now I'm hopeful I'll be able to make it up to SF upon your return from this glorious adventure. I look forward to your continued posts.
Love,
Uncle Eric
Have fun, loved reading your post!
